The use of an AI lede image (no gate to enter the pool, no lifeguard) showing an outdoor pool in the parking lot is so confusing, when the model is actually making indoor facilities within the strip mall itself.

This is editorial discretion regarding AI-generated images at its worst.

Easier clue that it's AI-generated: the store names are gibberish.

HN etiquette question: is useless AI illustration considered good cause for a flag? I certainly flagged the article.

Interesting, swimming (at least in my hometown) is part of most school physical education curriculums in grade schools. You have it once a week in public swimming pools for a semester or two.

They aim to get you to at least a basic fitness ("Seepferdchen") for swimming (25m) and light "diving"(picking up something from shoulder deep water).

It appears this isn't the case in the US? Would probably be a good thing to add.

Probably depends where you live in the US. For example, I grew up on the southeast US coast and we had basic boater safety as part of drivers ed in high school. I also had swimming lessons, but they were not part of a school curriculum.

When I grew up in Alaska, because of all the fishing/boating, swimming was both included in elementary PE and a high school graduation requirement.

Oddly, swimming is not required curriculum in Hawaii (per a friend) because they assume everyone already knows how to swim - except she couldn’t! She’d only ever been wading at the beaches.

Swimming pools (for children's swim lessons). This isn't useful for adults, but it's a start.
