Ask HN: What will happen to Apple Silicon devices once Apple ends updates?

Is Asahi Linux the way to prolong the lifespan of M-serie MacBooks?

When do they expect the last update for the Macbook M1 ?

And why Asahi Linux ?

Apple typically provides official support for 5-7 years after a product is last sold. Up to 10 for batteries.

Thanks.

Around 2030 I think.

As far as I know, Asahi is the only Linux distro that is capable of running on Apple Silicon

Thanks. I’ll take a look and maybe send a little money their way.

The same thing that happens to all vintage Macs. Apple discontinues support, tells you to recycle it and buy a new machine.

Asahi is only an option for devices which support it, which today is limited to M1/M2 only.
