I just had a friend of mine, basically an intelligent business person, though arts rather than sciences, forward me some tik tok style nonsense about viruses (eating eggs stops covid better than vaccine). I'm afraid a good chunk of the population get info from that stuff (actually instagram tiktok style vid) rather than Wikipedia etc.
Nowadays "cases" just means a positive test result, even if repeated on the same person. It does not mean sick or dying individuals.
