Free Virtual CS Classes and Tutoring

10 points_Yguy_5 comments

Hey everyone! I know this forum is 'notorious' for having more experienced and skilled coders but if I figured this might be relevant for some of you: Coding The Future is a program where we match people who are passionate about computer science to teach students interested in learning. If this sounds like an opportunity that you'd like to participate in please fill out this form so we can best match you with a tutee. Tutoring sessions will be 30 minutes weekly virtually.

All tutoring is done for free, so if you are interested in becoming a tutor you will get community service. We provide tutors with the resources to be an effective teacher, and regularly check in with our tutors and tutees to make sure the process is going smoothly.

Please note that dedicated tutors may be offered leadership roles, and if you are interested in taking on more leadership within the program, for example becoming a local director of programming or curriculum developer, please let us know.

You can also mail me directly if you want to help is any other way, like funding or leadership.

This is interesting. I will email you momentarily.

First, I’m definitely not good enough to be teaching regular classes. I never learned anything computer related formally but via "view source", online resources, and anything informal.

Second, I have been helping connect, especially school/college kids with the right people and the right courses for them to learn how to be fluent in computers. I already have connects to a few big communities where I can introduce this. If this goes well, I will also help spread the word, get donations, etc.

I love the global approach. Best of luck and good wishes.

Which languages do you support?

Since we have a registration for tutors, these things can vary a little bit but here the full list of options:

Python, HTML, CSS and Javascript Java, C++, Arduino, Algorithms, Web Engineering, Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Competitive Programming, Robotics, Game Development

You can also request something different or select 2-3 in the case that a tutor isn't allotted for one particular thing (Though that depends),

Again, this is more targeted toward usually teenagers and young learners, not necessarily for seasonal coders. But I figured it was worth posting on HN as there are some awesome people here.

And human languages? I see Brazil and Germany highlighted.

Oh... we have only provided tutoring in English till now, though the tutors are from different places around the world. We haven't really got any one with a different language yet, but if you're interested in that, then I'll talk to the team and let you know.

You can drop your mail or mail me directly at yusuf.amin2307@gmail.com

Thanks for showing interest. (And since you are an extremely experienced hackernews user, please let me know what we can improve about this site/organization)
