Show HN: Keep track of why you muted someone on X

This is a WebExtension I made for myself first, to solve my frustration caused by not being able to remember who is who on twitter. Every user has a unique mix of opinions, some of which I would rather not see on my tl - but simply muting someone is too permanent (twitter does not allow you to see what was the mute reason).

I don’t feel like I ever want to revisit blocked lists. If I blocked an account, I’m done with them.

I only have so much time and spending more time looking at blocked or muted accounts isn’t desirable.

people change, and you make mistakes. forgive and forget when the evidence changes.

I’m not invested enough to care about a given twitter account in that way.

I personally think most services should have this. Otherwise, if you ever go through your block list, you're left wondering why you blocked who you did. The only other option is to use Notepad to keep track, but who really wants to do that?

I'd rather have a button that triggers an AI to go through my blocklist and check the last 100 posts/retweets of all accounts and give them an asshole score and report back to me for a change in scenery.

But to be honest, why would I even care to do that. Why should I care or give any troll a second thought. What could possibly be missing from my life that given a rando (or nation state actor) a second chance would fulfill? Nothing. There is nothing to be gained. IT is a pointless exercise and I have much better ways to waste my life, like scrolling for a funny tiktok. A single funny tiktok has a better chance at changing the trajectory of my life more than a muted idiot.

I’ve got X - the entire service - muted and I’m reminded why almost daily

I'm off Twitter now, but I love the idea behind this, and would love if there was something like this but expanded.

One of the things about being on Twitter for a decade+ is that people change! There were more than a few occasions towards the end of Twitter where I had to stop and think, hang on, why did I follow this person again...? And then you realize, oh, they were a notable (person) in (field) six years ago but they've gone fully personal on this account. Or the opposite: they used to tweet really fun, offbeat jokes but now it's a professional account for something I would never have followed. I kept wishing for some sort of notes field to remind myself why I was following these people!

Looks useful - thanks for making this. It's good you can add notes for blocking people too.

I knew before even clicking through that there would be a reference to yapcine.

Just 86 x. Anything else is a half measure, at best. The house always wins.

I wish X would allow you to mute lists of people. I keep a list for insufferable VCs, and it would be nice to mute the whole list at once.

Maybe a feature request for your extension: take a list and mute everyone on it, and periodically check for new additions and mute those too. That way I can have the list be the source of truth, rather than commenting on every person I mute individually.

Import/export mute lists would be an amazing feature but why would x allow that? Shareable mute lists would turn the place into mastodon or something non-monitizeable due to low enragement.
