AWS says Britain needs more nuclear power to feed AI datacenter surge

How do AI datacenters empower Britain in any way? I can understand how a corporate entity might need this. I scratch my head wondering if this will boost local jobs or help councils make ends meet in any way given the paltry tax sum often paid by these behemoths.

Whilst they may not pay many taxes directly, they are often big employers and those they employ pay a lot of taxes.

Should we be looking at what kind of employers we encourage ?

Amazon doesn't seem very high quality as an employer (if you look out side the AWS bubble).

AWS is more than half their business.

The logistics side is necessarily colocated with their customers.

Questionable value of AI datacenters aside, I'm on board with any push for ramping up more nuclear power.
