Are Homes in Japan as Inexpensive as Advertised?

I've seen video after video of people visitng beautiful homes in Japan that cost under $150k and sometimes under $50k!

Is it really that cheap to buy a home in Japan? Or is there a catch? I live in Southeast Asia and I'm considering taking a trip to some of the suburbs outside Tokyo to see for myself.

Before I go though, is there anyone with familiarity buying a home in Japan or familiar with the process for a foreigner buying a home there?
