1 in Every 22 NYers Is a Millionaire

For those wondering why the number is so low: "For the purposes of this report, ‘wealth’ refers to an individual’s ‘liquid investable wealth’, which only includes their listed company holdings, cash, bonds, and crypto holdings (namely, items that can be cashed in quickly). Real estate assets are excluded."

> for every 22 people I pass, either walking on the street or in a packed subway car, statistically one of them is a millionaire—although, if I was a millionaire I’d never deal with the MTA again!

There are a lot of ways to become a millionaire, but perhaps the “easiest” is to get a good job in a big city and then live frugally over the course of years or decades.

Which is really to say that if 1 in 22 New Yorkers is a millionaire, then it’s pretty likely that far better than 1 in 22 New Yorkers that ride the subway are millionaires.
