Overdiagnosis and misdiagnosis. He’ll have to discover schizotypy for one thing. They should add “flocking” as a negative criterion for autism if it happens just once and that will get rid of a lot of cases.

Schizotypy was doomed to obscurity by Gordon Claridge and his frickin' conference proceedings. As opposed to the taxonic concept of Meehl where it is some condition you have or you don't, they just wrote numerous papers where they graded people on scales so now there is a "psychoticism" scale that competes with the "neuroticism" scale of the Big 5.

eluded me for a long time, it was when I came across Meehl's concept as articulated by Lezengreber

in particularly items (3) and (4) that made me understand why my life went the way it it did. Meehl postulated that schziotypy has a developmental disorder schizotaxia which then leads to negative social learning that causes it to become a personality disorder, it's a mistake to look at it primarily as a PD.

At this point, my cynicism assumes that the only answers they will be willing to accept are things they've already decided they don't like.

"We've found that cheap foreign imports cause autism!" or "A holiday in Greenland will cure autism!" or "It's a curse from God for turning away from Him, we must end the separation of Church and State!"

Assuming RFK still has a job by then. Might get swept under the rug if he gets fired for mis-managing measles.

You don't need to wait for a cause until September: Birth defect.

I can say this because I have been diagnosed with autism (or "cognitive development disorder" way back then), physical damage, congenital brain damage, and non congenital brain damage.
