Isn't it obvious that Trump's goal are not these tariffs, but renegotiated trading agreements? But everybody just seems to love to proclaim this the end of US.

No. It's not obvious that there's any lucid end goal whatsoever.

Isn't it obvious that you can't negotiate effectively if nobody trusts you?

Trust doesn’t matter if you have the most powerful military force in the world. You think the middle eastern countries surrounding Israel trust Netanyahu? Nope, but they sure fall in line and keep the negotiated peace because let’s face it, all of them combined will crumble before a single Israeli battalion. Might does indeed work in negotiations regardless of trust.

Talk about hubris. The US military is specified to fight a 2 front war, but has proved singularly unable to defeat other countries in occupation. The idea the US can just blackmail the world by force may be about to be tested, but I wouldn't be willing to bet on its success.

No I think the goal is to isolate the US and make it no longer a global power. That's explicitly the goal of several powerful people who were instrumental in Trump's rise to power.

This includes not only foreign adversaries (and those who work for them) who helped Trump, but also ideological crypto currency fans who fantasize about ending the idea of nation states in general.

How is that obvious? Why would your 'negotiating stance' be 'give no demands and tariff the entire world, including islands with just penguins, a nonsensical rate?'

I mean sure I guess you can say he's negotiating, in which case I'd like you to admit he's a terrible negotiator.

Literally not one person I would consider to be smart, or at least educated, has said any such thing.
