They've also deployed U2 spy planes[0], and RC-135 Rivet Joint[1] ISR aircraft along the border. As well as MQ-9 Reaper flights over Mexico[2][3].

I'm just waiting for them to hit the cartel and then we have a complete shit show of American expats and tourists getting caught in the middle if you know what I mean. The cartel runs Mexico and these Americans are in a very precarious position if things get real.....

Anyone who's lived or traveled in Mexico for more than a weekend agrees with you and understands the risks they are taking by going there.

It's unfathomable that anyone would suggest that the US should just let cartels run rough shot over the American population because tourists want to travel to risky places that no sane person should ever travel to.

roughshod

You know, if Mexico is a place where 'no sane person' should go... then shouldn't we be more understanding when people want to leave?

Mexico is the way it is because the people who live there by and large want to make it the way it is. It's not something inherent to the soil that makes it that way. Mexico can thrive if Mexicans choose to make it thrive.

Would you say the same about Hong Kong?

Every single person who can effect change and publicly opposes the cartel gets killed. Every single one. There is a list [0] of the ones killed in 2024 alone. Even outside of politics, you can't even really joke about the cartel while in Mexico, no matter who you are. They torture and kill entire families over nothing.

> The cartel runs Mexico

Which cartel “runs Mexico”?

I thought that, if you look at a map, they drew an artificial line a long time ago, many, many decades ago. All these arbitrary border lines and all, what's the big deal with people walking over? /s

Great to see that the US is prioritising their own border integrity even almost as much as the whole world expects them to prioritise Ukraine's border integrity. Really jealous.

What is a guided missile destroyer going to do to prevent migrants from walking across the border. If some are coming by boat then the Coast Guard can handle that, I mean it is kind in their name.

Yes, it's a weapon's platform first, but it's a surveillance platform zeroeth, to point the weapons.

Migrants come in at port of entry. Illegal aliens and cartels should be made to turn around, and a missile destroyed can make them do that.

What are these disingenuous comments doing here ?

What is disingenuous is spending my tax money to defend Ukraine's border while not defending my country's border.

That is such an old and untrue narrative that even Trump/MAGA no longer uses it because it never had any legs to begin with. It's humourous you're still using it. You'll need to come up with something more original that...

The idea that the US border is not being defended is a huge lie. Another lie is that its possible to defend the US border. The US border is huge and US unlike Ukraine is not being invaded. Immigrants coming over the border are harder to track then groups of tanks. We spend and arguably waste billions on billions of dollars on border security in america with nothing or negative results. That's not because of some nefarious pro immigrant agenda its because practically the border isn't securable.

As for Ukraine, discouraging Russian aggression is in the intrest of America

Why do we need inter-continental ballistic misiles that can be fired way beyond our countries borders ?
