We're experiencing the Katy Parry doctrine:
'Cause you're hot, then you're cold
You're yes, then you're no
You're in, then you're out
You're up, then you're down
You're wrong when it's right
It's black and it's white
We fight, we break up
We kiss, we make up
They were literally one of the very first things he got rid of and now all of the voting infrastructure is controlled at the state level by partisans who have shown loudly and clearly that they have no interest in playing fair.
Putting all of your eggs in the free and fair elections category is genuinely not a credible plan at this point.
And of course, the Federal government isn't involved in the logistics of voting at all. It's run by thousands of local governments.
You can't stuff hundreds of ballot boxes without election monitors noting the discrepancy in number of voters. Even if you could, you can't add more ballots than people visited without the election monitors noticing or remove them for the same reason.
Since voter names are crossed off and publicly recorded as voting, stuffing a ballot also box risks discovery if that person tries to vote or sees themselves on the list.
Since votes are tallied and reported as counts happen at the precinct level, again, with election monitors, there's no easy place to alter votes. The sum of the precinct totals has to be the final result.
Then there are the automatic recounts which have to match the originals or one risks discovery.
The only real scalable attack is through electronic voting machines without a paper trail - which is why they should be banned. Well that and any ranked choice races for the areas that have them (since they have to be tallied centrally and aren't auditable in any reasonable way). Anything else has a high risk of discovery.

He holds a lot of cards, but he's making the mistake of thinking he holds all of them. It'll be painful for us former US allies, but it's going to be fatal for the future of the US.
This is nothing but a Farquaadian bargain for America.
>Lord Farquaad's appearance [in the film Shrek] may be inspired by Michael Eisner, the then-CEO of The Walt Disney Company, owing to producer Jeffrey Katzenberg's animosity toward his former employer. Others had noticed a resemblance to Richard III of England. The name Farquaad is thought to be a way to get away with saying "fuckwad" in a family-friendly film. Farquaad happens to be similar to the surname of film animator Mark Farquhar. Some think Farquaad was based on the 7th US President, Andrew Jackson, as he forced a group from their land (Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act in 1830).
Are you really sure you want that, Mr. Trump?
If Trunps plans was to disrupt Canadians internal politics, he has certainly succeeded.
Additioanllly the Liberal party had leveraged this whole thing to distract people from its own failures during critical election time by framing US as our enemy and attempting to win votes against conswervatives.
The whole situation is unhinged.
Putin gets a neutered US military-political machine, while US oligarchs, who've seen insane, unprecedented growth in the last 5 years, can then just buy up everything on the cheap. everyone else can suck it.
Trump Drops Threat to Double New Tariffs on Canadian Steel and Aluminum
a) since China has essentially supplanted the WorldBank/IMF in providing loans to a lot of the "global south" specifically Africa
b) and since the US Empire essentially needs to keep growing in order to maintain solvent
c) and Russia/China are really bullish on the Northern sea routes - they have icebreakers all ready to open channels in an already weakened polar ice
Suddenly Canada and Greenland have outsized geopolitical importance as those might become trade hubs in a climate changed world.
There won't be any trade in a climate changed world.
All Trump did was to make sure that Greenland will not see another US base in the near future. Which would, when you think about it, make Russia quite happy if Greenland is strategically important.
For example, in my opinion Trump seems distinct in recent world politics. Instead of power being expressed through relationships, cultural exports and economics, Trump's notion of power is expressed through the property you have, how it looks, and that it is used or how it is used.
That example would be a theory that explains why the approach of "51st state" or "Rivera of the Middle East" is chosen.
(Though there is more you could theorize here: from ego, urgency, or trolling, to things like strategically preemptively folding on competing in a multipolar economic world and settling for simply western hemisphere sole influence and control)
If I were PM of Canada I would publicly announce that Canada would have Chinese and Russian nuclear missile silos on Canadian soil before becoming an American state.

If pressed I would have predicted delulu Atlantacist who can't eat crow for domestic politics would try to virtue signal some sort of defiant solidarity, even though on paper their ability to assist Canada is nothing burger tier. Again, I would not categorize this as show of force - it's hopium - the idea that NATO sans US can park enough firepower around Canada to stop US armor companies from daytripping down highways connected to all Canadian urban centres is not serious.

> The reasons for the fleet’s visit remain open to interpretation. While there is little doubt that the Russian government saw it as an opportunity to display its support for the Lincoln administration, considerable self-interest was also at work. The Russians were anxious to avoid their misfortune of 10 years earlier when the British and French navies had been able to trap the Russian fleet in the Baltic during the Crimean War. Should war now break out over the Russians’ brutal suppression of a revolt in Poland, the czar wanted his fleet to be available and in position to raid enemy shipping. The voyage to North America also provided opportunities to demonstrate the Russian navy’s capabilities and to observe the Union ironclads that promised to revolutionize maritime warfare.
listen: Canada is British Commonwealth and could theoretically get UK, or maybe French (via NATO) nukes before they'd ever consider Chinese or Russian nuclear silos.
Or just build them themselves -- SK is the 2nd largest source of uranium globally, and launching a nuke into the US doesn't require terribly complex technology.
"The French nuclear submarine FS Tourville photographed in Halifax Harbour today.
I'm not sure when a French submarine last visited Canada. I certainly believe this is the first time a Suffren-class boat has been to Halifax."
