兎 (usagi) in japanese means "rabbit", the most buck-toothy of animals. Going by the fact that they're japanese researchers, this must be a pun.

I can personally vouch that I have seen new teeth growing in a woman that was 103 years old.

Very interesting actually. She was proudly showing them off.

I fell as a child and the damage killed two adult teeth before they could grow so I still have two baby teeth. My dentist without fail reminds me I’ll need implants eventually and I always say I’m holding out till they can just regrow my teeth. Who knows maybe my case has scar tissue that would prevent this method from working but I’ll excitedly mention this to my dentist at the next visit.

Dentists will probably lobby against this

Why would dentist lobby against this? Or maybe it is a nightmare.

No way. More teeth → more cavities for them to fix :) they'll likely be the ones administering the treatment to have them grow anyway

this is the same logic as "there is cancer treatment but they hid it"

I'm pretty sure that 9 out of 10 dentists would recommend this.
