I have been using TurboTax to file taxes for years. I do not like the company and would like to switch to something I trust a little more (and is a little cheaper) but I feel a little locked in (and it seems relatively easy). I am going to look at the website but does anyone have much to say about the difference (not employed and some 1099--div/int, in Texas so no state income taxes).

I am super happy I switched. I live in Texas and have W-2 income as well as multiple 1099s (1099-R, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-K, 1099-MISC, etc.). I started using TaxHawk for in 2022. I previously used TurboTax for over a decade but despised Intuit[1] and was finally able to switch away from them.

TaxHawk doesn't have the same level of importing as TurboTax. The best TaxHawk can do is import a W-2 from a PDF or image. But, TaxHawk can't connect to bank/investment accounts. So, you have to enter that info manually. However, the manual input isn't very hard (and TurboTax importing didn't always work).

Once you get a year done in TaxHawk, it will keep your info to help with the next year.

I used CashApp to file my (relatively complicated) taxes last year and it worked great. Nice interface, and 100% free. (I had been using TT and HRBlock in years previously, not going back.)

FYI, Credit Karma Tax turned into Cash App Taxes.

why use Hawk vs freetaxusa? what is diff?

As far as I know, it is the exact same. Just different branding (for some reason).
