I feel this lack of magnanimity is a mistake. Only the true believers will rejoice at it. Others will have their position hardened.

When has this group ever done anything for anyone but true believers? It's been a winning formula for them.

Every time democrats lose, they reflect that they need to appeal to more voters by sliding right. Every time republicans lose, they have a meltdown and also slide right. Centrism has gone from "we should have a government that runs effectively and efficiently" to "well, opinions differ about whether we should have a government at all, but we probably might need some of it?"
