Jack Dorsey called out as Satoshi Nakamoto

Whoever Satoshi was, they don't care to cash in a bunch of bitcoin that would be worth a lot right now. Now maybe they lost the hard drive, but more likely they are either:

1) dead

2) so rich that it wouldn't improve their life any to out themselves as Satoshi, while it might make their life more complicated owing to governments that may resent it

My guess is that #1 is the more likely. But, you know, if I'm wrong and it's #2, I guess it could be Jack Dorsey. But the simplest answer is more often the correct one.

3) they are in prison

Who invented Bitcoin?

Paul LeRoux - "He [Paul LeRoux] also invented E4M the predecessor to Truecrypt, the encryption software NSA still can't crack. E4M was released the same exact way the BTC whitepaper was released. Fun fact: he is from Zimbabwe and was there during the '08 hyperinflation that created the $100 Trillion Dollar Bill, BTC was created the next year." [0]

Shinichi Mochizuki - Ted Nelson speculated that Sinichi Mochuzuki is Santoshi.

Len Sassaman - "I'm pretty certain Satoshi's identity is known, although not publicly stated and/or confirmed by anyone. I believe a handful of the early developers had very strong suspicion as to who was behind the name, but never pursued a confirmation of it. My money is on Len [1]. The sheer number of coincidences, crossing of rare skill sets and interests, time, place, penchant of pseudo anonymously publishing things and happened to take his own life <2 months after Satoshi's final gloom-filled message, "I’ve moved on to other things and probably won’t be around in the future" [1, 2]. Also, "her [Len's] wife probably has the keys." [3, 4]. Also "Len Sassaman (died 2011)". [5]

Nick Szabo - "...if it's one person, it's gotta be Szabo", "Only person in the world who wouldn't cite his work would be himself.", and "If it's more than one person, of course it could include Len. [6] Also, "There is plenty of direct evedence [sic] that points to him [Szabo]." [7] "Here is Szabo last post about Bitgold before he renamed it to Bitcoin: https://unenumerated.blogspot.com/2008/04/bit-gold-markets.h..." [8, 9]

Hal Finney (died 2014) - generally deemed [10]

Adam Back - "The evidence for Adam Back being Satoshi Nakamoto is pretty damning.", "...he [Adam Back] founded/runs the company Blockstream which does a large amount of development work on Bitcoin core.", and "...he [Adam Back] was heavily involved in the cypherpunk scene". [13] 'A "massive campaign [was] launched to disprove this" [that Adam Back was Satoshi].' and "There's...an edit war over this video (YT VID XfcvX0P1b5g) going on on the wikipedia pages of both Adam Back and Satoshi Nakamoto.", and 'David Gerard, author of "Attack of the 50 Foot Blockchain" is trying to suppress the use of this video as a primary source on both pages.'' [14, 15]

A nation state created bitcoin. - "It's pretty obvious the CIA invented Bitcoin..." [11] "The image of Bitcoin as a techy, trendy and hip, revolutionary new way of relating to money is pure propaganda." [12]

Another simple possibility could be whatever mix de jure of big tech, big research, WEF, and UN type proponents of one world government, post-nation-state banking, etc.

I do think it's likely that it was the creation of some organization or another, and Satoshi is fictional. As to what group that would be, I can't even begin to guess. There are too many plausible ones.

Calling Jack Dorsey the real Satoshi is like calling Forrest Gump the real Einstein. It really does not take a very smart person to poke holes in this little theory.

I remember 2 years ago, part of HN was dead-to-rights convinced Elon wrote the Bitcoin source code because he claimed to know C++. People will find whatever evidence they can to support these largest-common-denominator theories.

The theory is making rounds, discussing tech-related news is what this site is about. I don't subscribe to that theory either, much of the evidence seems pretty far-fetched (father's birthday) to counterindicative (sailing trip).

" Elon wrote the source code because he claimed to know C++."

lol

Let me spirit you back to an old account, from the fey and forgotten days of 2022... https://news.ycombinator.com/threads?id=sahil50

Don't stare too long, you'll go blind.

Seriously. Oh, god, my eyes. My brain.
