HTML Kaleidoscope

Anyone who likes the trippy views that a kaleidoscope shows ought to pick up a teleidoscope. It has the same internal reflective structure, but instead of colored bits of glass/plastic at the end, it has a fisheye lens to the outside world. They're quite fun to look through, since you get to pick from an endless array of shapes and color palettes by just pointing it at different things. A bit of searching will turn up shopping results for under $10.

Thanks, I didn't know about that.

I only found out about them well into my 30s, and was so enamored by the one my friend showed me that he let me keep it. It's enchanting.

There's also the pseudoscope, which reverses one's depth perception. I can grasp the concept, but I have real trouble imagining what that experience is like. I was unsuccessful in ever finding one for sale, until just now! https://www.grand-illusions.com/collections/optical-illusion...

Title is wrong. I thought someone implemented Kaleidoscope with HTML only (no JS). Original title is "Kaleidoscope with JS"

Yeah utterly false advertising

Another mobile-friendly one and using the camera as input: https://kaleido-app.vercel.app

Oh it reminds me of something I created a few years ago (which is _real_ html+css, no js involved): https://codepen.io/lmmm/pen/YwMjyQ

looks more like JS Kaleidoscope to me

Indeed. And it absolutely destroys Safari on my Mac. (Works fine in Chrome, though.)

If you like cool stuff like this, be sure to check out shadertoy: https://www.shadertoy.com/

This would go well with Incense and Peppermints.

Saving this for my next trip
