I've nudged a few people who've asked me how to learn computer programming toward go - I think the simplicity of the tooling and language itself make it a good place to start. But I do think go mostly lends itself to multithreaded web services and it's hard to turn that into fun first projects for beginners.
I went from a skeptic to a huge fan of Go. I like how simple the language is, but powerful at the same time. It has a great balance between helping me do things the right way, but at the same time staying out of my way. Concurrency is particularly nice.
I went from a huge Go fan to a primarily Rust developer. I recently went back to a Go SDK I had written and I did not regret moving to Rust at all.
The one thing I miss from Go is the insanely fast build times :)
