Perplexity AI proposes to merge with TikTok, with US Government getting half

The U.S. government owning half a social media company. Nothing could possibly go wrong.

It already has de-facto control of two (redacted) social media sites and a media network.

I remember when we had three networks. Will we now have just one?

Is this also Perplexity looking for an off ramp and acknowledging it’s unlikely to succeed in its current state?

I’m honestly not sure its value anymore. I almost never use it and should probably stop paying for it.

That immediately came to mind when I read about this. Is Perplexity in such rough shape that they're going for a Hail Mary pass?

If this doesn’t go through, will be interesting to see if they implode and become the first big name company of this AI wave fold.

History is so much more interesting when you don’t have to live through it though.

It's really interesting (or disquieting, depending on your point of view) to think about possible synergies between these two business models.
