Social Media Is Dead, You Just Haven't Noticed Yet

I think this just barely misses a point: Part of why it died is people from disparate backgrounds don't have anything to say.

In my discord groups, telegram chats, etc. they're all focused: Bet it on making music, writing embedded firmware, etc. Things I am interested in. Furthermore, because they're more restricted, I don't have to deal with people that I don't like: If you're an ass, you'll be shown the door. The platform isn't kicking you off in full, you're just not welcome to my particular party.

This does have downsides. It lowers discoverability, for one. I'm not introduced to as many new ideas or hobies I might be into. It means I don't see local events or local used items for sale unless those groups are explicitly local versions of those sub-interests - and for many hobbies, groups like that don't exist.

Weather any of this is good or bad is up to the individual. I think it leans positive, which is why people seem to be preferring it. If anything, I think it's more social as the ANTI-social behavior that made the platforms of yesteryear die off is less prevelant.

Social media is great IF AND ONLY IF you curate your own lists or join groups that group people by interest, insane amount of stuff can be learned!

God help you though if you let the feed use you!

<as a bunch of ppl get social editing a google doc>

Why is this a google doc? Who is the source/author?

Author uses motivated reasoning: I hate Elon and Zuckerberg therefore social media is dead. Social media may be dead but the author is an unreliable witness. If you're looking for objective analysis then go elsewhere.
