They finally formally acknowledged that USB-C is a terrible physical interface for PCI devices. eGPUs will disconnect and crash the running program or OS if the laptop is picked up and it moves the cable slightly. Thunderbolt cables also need the integrated controller chips, making the USB-C connectors larger and more prone to strain and disconnects. Some vendors have USB-C cables that are secured with a screw, but the standard was never really used.
