Migration tool to leave Twitter/X

I deleted my Twitter account ages ago, so can't try it, but I'm curious how this actually works. _Does_ it work? Has anyone tried it? My impression was that the API was now fairly comprehensively crippled.

There is a page with the details of what they retrieve/store: https://www.helloquitx.com/How-is-your-personal-data-process...

They essentially rely on you sharing the follower.js/following.js file from your data dump.

Ah, right, yeah, that makes more sense. I was thinking of something more like the old twitter->mastodon migration tools (which relied on access to the twitter API).

  > With Elon Musk, X became an opinion manipulation machine.

And what's this website? Kettle calls the pot black. Sure, it's whataboutism, I know. It doesn't make it not true, however.

Are you OK with Musks's Nazi salute?

And what about... but what about...

Is that yes?

Why are you asking me? You voted for him, lol.

Also, what kind of question is that? What makes you think that it is relevant?

It's akin to having a conversion like

  > I like blue color
  > What? Did you groom 5 or 10 kids yesterday? Which number is the correct one?
  > ???

Nobody voted for Musk. That's part of the problem.

That's arguably not true. It was never concealed that Musk would get important roles in the government, and Trump still got a stunning amount of votes.

However this is once again just distraction.

To summarize:

  > There is a submission, claiming that Twitter is influencing the opinion of people
  > I agree with this, but call out that this website does the same
  > Suddenly someone starts screeching *nazi nazi nazi*

And I'm still kind of stumped. People really deserve to harvest what they sow.

Ironic, considering your top level comment basically starts with that.

The ADL says that’s not what it was.

It is though, so maybe they didn’t watch the video?

Yes, whats is your point?

equalizing "having an opinion" and "activism" with "broad manipulation based on personal whim" - those are the mental gymnastics I see too often these days.

One of those things requires power and the other does not. And abuse is pretty hard without power.

It's a tool to help you stay in contact with your follower if you decide to leave Twitter. The decision is still up to you, the goal is to try to minimize the network effect which might prevent some people from leaving.

I fail to see the manipulation ...
