Lot of people's survival is dependent on control of others. And inversely lot of people who are controlled are dependent on their masters to sustain whatever lifestyle they have. We are already used to this dynamic.
But Hegel shows us consciousness emerges through this interaction. He argues its a requirement for Consciousness emergence. As soon as you control others for whatever reason you also become conscious of your dependency on them.
I guess this is just coincidence
