Tell HN: I found 4 gaming PCs including GTX1080, GTX2070Super and 2 RTX3060's
I have a habit of looking at PCs that are being chucked on the hard waste outside houses, before the local council comes to clear it away. I'm always hoping to find some old vintage computer. Leads to much eye rolling from my family as we stop the car to examine old bits of junk.
Two days ago I saw some PC's on a junk pile and stopped the car. Wow! Four machines. I didn't look close but threw them in the back of the car and continued to the supermarket.
When I got home I asked my 15 year old son to have a look in them and see if they contained anything interesting.
Turns out they seemed to be fully specced out gaming rigs from maybe 6 years ago.
My 15 year old son, literally shouting, jumping up and down and shaking with excitement, listed out what I'd found:
- Nvidia GTX1080 GPU 6GB VRAM
- Nvidia GTX2070 Super GPU 8GB VRAM
- Nvidia RTX3060 12 GB VRAM
- Nvidia RTX3060 12 GB VRAM
- 3 of them have 32GB RAM
- 1 has 16GB RAM
- Intel Core i9 10900K (10 cores/20 threads)
- Intel Core i9 10900K (10 cores/20 threads)
- Intel Core i9 8700K (6 cores/12 threads)
- Intel Core i5 5600KS (4 cores/4 threads)
- All have 500GB SSD
- Top quality motherboards and cases.
The house was clearly owned by pretty well off people. Maybe all the kids got brand new gaming computers for Xmas?Anyhow it turned out to be an amazing coincidence because my son had got a new computer from his mum for her house and a new computer from me for my house, but he had not yet bought GPU's for them, so that works out really nice!
