In the UK, ebay will add 75p plus 4% to private seller prices. Somehow they still describe their service as free to private sellers.

If I buy by credit card I am already protected. So what am I paying eBay for?

In reality I think the seller will eat this fee by having to reduce the selling price. But your point remains.

Obscene enshittification

EBay annual/quarterly gross profit history and growth rate from 2021 to 2024.

Gross profit can be defined as the profit a company makes after deducting the variable costs directly associated with making and selling its products or providing its services.

EBay gross profit for the quarter ending September 30, 2024 was $1.849B, a 3.01% increase year-over-year.

Thats $1,849,000,000 profit Folks

EBay gross profit for the twelve months ending September 30, 2024 was $7.394B, a 1.9% increase year-over-year.

EBay annual gross profit for 2023 was $7.279B, a 2.3% increase from 2022.

EBay annual gross profit for 2022 was $7.115B, a 8.43% decline from 2021.

EBay annual gross profit for 2021 was $7.77B, a 9.48% increase from 2020.

I guess their annual profit growth is not enough ;-)

What irritates me the most is the way they are still describing it as free to sellers when in reality sellers will have to eat this fee by reducing their asking price to remain competitive.
