Ask HN: Recommendations for site to post technical blogs?
Please share your recommendations
I'm looking for:
- Free to post, free to read
- Minimal analytics (don't want to write articles no one reads)
- Code blocks, mermaid / charts as code, graphviz support would also be awesome.
- Comments / Likes / Engagement
I have tried;
- GitHub Repo Markdown / Github Wiki
Nearly perfect but it doesn't have analytics or more advanced layouts (like columns).
- Medium
Aside from the site pestering people to pay, the lack of support for code highlighting, mermaid, graphs as code and the limited formatting makes it less than ideal.
- Dev.to
Nice, free, simple but lacking a lot of features & formatting. The editor is quite basic and complex articles that are better illustrated with expressive formatting are impossible. You also lose you changes if you refresh the editor page which can be devastating.
- Atlassian Confluence
Pretty great when it comes to features but requires a paid subscription to access analytics/plugins. It's also slow and difficult to share articles.
- Static Site Generator (rspress)
I tried to use a static site generator like rspress and a Giscus widget to add comments however it lacks the customizability I crave
- Hand-Written Static Site Generator (Giscus, Plausible)
This is my current solution but the overhead of maintaining a website while not being a talented designer means it never looks how I want it to and I spend more time tinkering with the site than I do actually writing articles.
