In my experience rehearsing what you are going to say is fatal. Be sure of what you want to achieve and what your position on it is. "Sorry, it's just that we heard my wife has only months to live". Did you rehearse that? Mostly conversations go a route you couldn't even imagine. Learning to be nimble is better.
