Hi guys,

I want to share the recent project i developed. I built AlternateOSS, a directory of free, open source alternatives and competitors to popular software.

Currently, i have listed 200+ tools so far and organized them carefully based on their main functionalities. I ranked them based on its category relevancy and feature completeness.

Some technical details & features:

- fully static site built with Astro

- View Transition API for smooth navigation

- Instant/static search with Astro static endpoints

If you have an open source project that can be an alternative to popular software, let me know. I will list it on AlternateOSS for free :)

Thanks, have a nice day!

Nice but I'm surprised not to see anyone talking about awesome (https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted) which are lists of open source alternatives. It's in the form of github repositories

This is truly awesome.

Nice. A shout out to darktable, which I use for all my Raw development as a pro photographer. It's extra nice because I don't have to pay Adobe a cent.

yes, Darktable is nice for pro photographer

Looks good. Thanks for making this.

Some features that would be nice to have: - a list of the categories - the user’s index page location persists after viewing a sub-page. When I clicked a product, then went back, it starts me at the top of the main page even if I had clicked to go further down the page originally.

It looks good.

It would be nice if ther site could remember that I've ticked “Open-source only”, so I don't have to re-tick it every time I visit a new category.

I see. Thanks for the suggestion. I will consider it for next improvement

Nice. How does one submit a suggestion? I'd like to propose Anytype as an alternative to Notion.

Nice!

However scrolling doesn’t work quite right for me on mobile, it stutters and pauses

Its working fine for me. But whats your device?

Anyway thanks for reporting

Open Source can not be popular?

Also alternativeto .net

AlternativeTo.net is good. Its one of my source for AlternateOSS. But it's not specifically for open source, and we have different UI :D.
