Lights of emergency vehicles may cause automated driving systems to fail

They already cause similar issues in humans, especially drunk drivers. There's been a lot of research into why drivers run up the rear of fully lit emergency vehicles on freeways at 70mph.

Ambulances and some fire trucks in the Australian Capital Territory for example are fitted steady burn amber lights, along with the flashing red and blues. They use steady burn amber to make the vehicle highly visible without dazzling drivers or encouraging rubbernecking.
