I'd nominate the Platypus as mascot.
NCF agrees with some HN commentators; one could hope –if there is to be an implosion— for a similarly violence-free one?
(my model is that MSG was the first "new man" who had actually been born in the Union, and his generation was therefore much less accommodating than previous ones had been of a system that, by the time you were close to the Center of it, turned out to work nothing like they'd told you it was supposed to while you were growing up)
EDIT: also, I'll gladly prove Washington, like Lenin, was a mushroom if anyone feels like sending me a Halliburton full of USD 1 bills.
EDIT2: note that most of that debt is likely also geriatrically held (or maybe in trust, but those have be distributed to someone living at their formation, which tends to punt at most 2 generations?)
EDIT3: note on deaths of despair: I'm told that the 90s were not the best of times for the weaker members of society; one might hope that anything similar would not be as great a step function as it was then.
EDIT4: I don't think new foundations of social legitimacy are necessarily required; wider distribution of benefits of growth should suffice. But in the Old Country, "We all do better when we all do better", the foundation of the New Deal, would now be pinko commie talk. (NCF's suggestion to me smacks of attempting to reconvert losers back into clueless?)
* friends of Hugin & Munin, however, are rare
EDIT5: wrt 天命, could 樂 be translated as "vibes"?
