On HN, if a post is paywalled, and someone posts a link in the comments that is similar to the post, or to archive, then in my experience 100% of the time it's been an unpaywalled version. Doesn't need any explanation on HN
Not everyone is a HN veteran that knows this, and adding "paywall bypass: " goes a long way to ease comprehension.
Isn't it enough already that the poster has taken the time and trouble to post a bypass without having to additionally specify that that is what it is? Sheesh!
I'm not sure how you (and many others, judging by the downvotes) got the impression that OP should be shamed for not specifying what the list is for. I only said that "you should mention [...]". If you agree that adding an explainer is a net benefit (ie. help people understand what it's for), then I don't see why it's not something you "should" do.
