As you might notice, these don't have a handle at the top where you would perhaps expect to hold and spin the tops with your fingers. That is because tops were not supposed to be set in motion with your hand but rather using a string.
If I remember correctly, our tops were blank wood as bought and we tended to paint them in our designs.
I think when I see this video, we all were throwing it upside down.
