Why Doesn't Microsoft Do Their Own Linux Distro?

What about azure Linux and cbl -mariner before that?

10 years ago, I thought that Microsoft would eventually buy Canonical (the Ubuntu company). I'm surprised that it hasn't happened yet.

I don’t understand what MS would get out of releasing their own distro?

They already have WSL. Why do they need to build their own distro?
