It’s not the top-line SoC, but for the same price as the DevKit it comes with a free battery and AMOLED screen:

It has OpenBSD support in 7.6, and there is a devicetree patch floating around for Linux.
But have you encountered any serious issues so far (I expect to put Linux on it, and I build my own kernels).
The documentation and well maintained kernel are kinder to new devs. =)
In general, most reasonable ARM64 machines are not yet value competitive with the same priced intel+Nvidia_GPU laptops.
Application support (MacOS or Win11 on ARM) is usually what hits hard in edge-cases people take for granted as working most of the time.
Best of luck, =)
The porting issues are not as spotty as a few years back, but one should check your use-case won't be hit with 3D/codec issues or missing services. Recall qemu does ARM64 just fine... =3
Really depends on the use-case, as some people find custom kernel driver development or maintenance fun. Have a great day =)
Ordered one, it's coming today. Since I have TotalTech if I completely hate it I've got something like two months to give up on it. I don't game so if I can pull it off I can leave my XPS at home; we'll see ....
On Linux, I successfully built a kernel but I have not gotten the firmware working. My WIP is here and I am very much a novice in this area: https://github.com/conradev/x1e-nixos-config
Looks like ARM Holdings has: https://www.reuters.com/technology/arm-holdings-cancel-qualc...
So I'm taking it back; if Qualcomm loses this case, this chip is certainly abandoned.
Same thing happened with Apple (https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2019/04/qualcomm-and-apple-ag...), with Apple planning to replace Qualcomm's modems in their iPhone SE in the spring after 6 years of engineering: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2024-08-18/why-is...
I'm sure that everyone is excited to switch to RISC-V, so maybe Qualcomm accelerates those plans.
