Anyways, I can't believe that the moons colder surface has anything to do with earth - The explanations make sense, but for me are just as insignificant as the fact that you are never touching anything for real (it's only the electrons pushing each other away)
I was quite disappointed, that the article did not mention any real numbers / data. Not even a single reference to a 0.1K difference (or whatever the real temperature difference was)
It's baiscally always the same with these lurid news articles about space - just bloated sensational journalism
