Open source battery technology could change the landscape of renewable power
This isn't some speculative new technology, this is a well proven and developed technology being open sourced to the world. Think REPRAP but for batteries.
Right now, batteries are the bottleneck for most renewable energy systems. They have a high initial and recurring cost. They are manufactured only in highly specialized facilities, and they often include problematic materials.
What if home / microgrid scale storage batteries could be readily manufactured from easily accessible parts and materials, lasted 20K+ cycles before needing an overhaul (not being recycled) and could easily be scaled to meed evolving needs?
This is exactly the promise of open-source redox-flow batteries. Have a look at https://fbrc.dev/ to see what I believe is one of the most important potential developments in renewable energy in the last few decades.
