Bedrock (Expensify's distributed database built on a custom fork of SQLite)

The splash page says it uses... a private blockchain?

My understanding was blockchain can achieve distributed consensus among untrusting parties, which is very impressive. But what advantage does it have over any other consensus algorithm in a private setting?
