Fundamentally, though? The Viper is a neat platform but I don't think it could ever do the F-15C's role. Later the F-15 would be adapted to the Viper's role with the F-15E block, but the Viper never really reached the F-15's mach rating or payload capacity. It feels silly to say either one is fundamentally better than the other, even though I generally agree that F-35 >>> F-22.
