Ask HN: How will Chromium project be if Google is forced to split it?

i mean with talks of google being investigated and being found guilty of anti-trust, one of the ideas floating around is that google might be forced to spin away chromium project. if that happens, my question is, what will happen to it since it would not have the wealth of google at disposal.

if chromium project is forced to become independent, how will it afford to pay developers salary and more importantly, what would its revenues be? will it become like firefox, dependent on revenues from google?
