Mark Simmons' ship joke named funniest of Edinburgh fringe

For us Yanks, I needed this bit of translation to understand: "If you say that someone has bottled it, you mean that they have lost their courage at the last moment and have not done something they intended to do."

It's an OK joke, but I don't think it's the funniest one on the list. I have a feeling it gets bonus points for being an in-joke of British slang. People everywhere love jokes that they get but leave others puzzled.

Personally, I prefer "My partner told me that she’d never seen the film Gaslight. I told her that she definitely had." Which probably betrays my own preference for an in-joke. Same with "I've been taking salsa lessons for months, but I just don't feel like I'm progressing. It's just one step forward... two steps back."

I'm pretty sure that the funniest moments at Fringe weren't one-liners at all. But it's a lot harder to put them in a contest.
