I’m way out side the mariadb ecosystem. Does it support basic things now like foreign keys?

MariaDB supports FKs since day 1, because it's a fork of MySQL.

And MySQL has had support for FK for 23 years now.

It also as features like HA and clustering unlike some other opensource db :)

I thought NDB got left behind in the fork?

Galera cluster for MariaDB, I think MySQL cluster is the most recent iteration for MySQL cluster
