Makes you wonder if there will be a future FDIC equivalent, complete with single-business-day turnaround for receivership (idk if you've ever had your normal bank go under, but the fdic gets you access to your money like over the weekend, it's almost weirdly fast)

BTW, instead of burning a dollar bill, have you tried spending it on buying $1 worth of electricity and wasting it on useless computation? Then you can use the invoice/receipt from your utility company as a proof of burn (PoB) ;)
One issue with the power company receipt PoB proposal is that the dollar value isn't actually destroyed; the power company still becomes $1 richer, and could repeatedly recycle that dollar to burn more energy and mint more currency. In order to prevent runaway inflation, you'd want to decouple the amount of energy burnt from the amount of issued currency. What if you used the PoB receipts as lottery tickets, and every 10 minutes a winner is picked and receives a fixed amount (say, 50 units) of currency? :)
