What does a BGP Route cost? (2008)

The size of the DFZ exceeds 900,000 now.
Not wanting to over-state it, most BGP is junk. Most of the net would be fine with default, most of the net actually has acquired default, and most net traffic flows over at most 1 BGP peering to a CDN, or even less: the CDN now lie inside the ISP so it doesn't even exit the ASN's iBGP state.
Given promiscuous use of CGNs we could re-number to a far smaller routing surface. About 1/3 of the 900,000 which is by coincidence the size of the IPv6 table.
Routing ain't what it used to be.
