I was thinking the same thing. The state of software is generally so poor, lacking any attention to detail and showing a disregard for the customer (who has been reduced to a single “revenue” line item in a financial analysis).

There’s an epidemic of “minimum viable” when it comes to software, and that results in flying really close to “not viable”.

The startup culture celebrates an even lower bar, "not viable but appears to be minimum viable". Think of the fireside stories about launching e.g. an AI image recognizer, while secretly using humans to do the recognition.

Yep. And that deception is presented as wisdom! We are supposed to admire how cunning they are with their fakery.

And what do they all say? “We should have launched sooner.”

That’s what happens when the goal of the vast majority of startups is not to build an actual business. Their goal is to “get funded”. It just feels rotten.

The bar can always be lower, too. Think slideware and vaporware. You don't even need to have a product, let alone a minimally viable one. You just need to convince someone to give you money.
