This makes me sad, I haven't thought about Bob Newhart in years, he was a ever present fixture on TV my entire youth.

As soon as I saw the headline, the only thing that popped into my head was, "Hi, I'm Larry, this is my brother Darryl, and this is my other brother Darryl!" with Bob maintaining a straight face the entire time in front of a audience.[0]

Class act all the way. I wish we had more celebrities like him and Betty White nowadays.

It was his dream sequence, we just lived in it.

One of the most unexpected and one of the funniest scenes ever on TV.

I look at that scene as a clever way of admitting that the 2nd series was nowhere near as good as the first.

I'll never forget Bob Newhart's heartfelt eulogy for Krusty the Clown. It was better than some real life ones I heard!

Newhart is great, of course, but I think his humor and Carson's were like magic together, too. Carson had that understated, reaction-based comedy just like Bob.

He was more before my time but he was huge. The number of votes on this really emphasizes something I learned long ago. Fame won’t save you from the black hole of death. People will forget you regardless.

I always think of the buildings with people’s names on them. Does anyone remember anything about those actual people? Nope. When you’re gone you’re gone. Mostly likely after a few generations there will be no mention or memory of you at all.

OK, I grew up around there. Hardly anyone knew who he was.

A museum of the cryonized brains of celebrities, perhaps behind AR screens giving them eyeballs and mouths and feet and hands, would be great. The costs of mainteinance would be partly from gov. subsidies and partly from visitors and partly from pre-payments. They could also show how scans of the brains looked when they were getting frozen to make the point that there is information there...

Am I weird for Googling the names of buildings, streets, conference rooms?

As for the ephemeral nature of things, it’s probably for the best that we have a finite time to do stuff and then leave the rest to others.
