This is an outright lie, it has always meant equality of outcome.

Here is the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, stating explicitly: "we are talking much more rightly about equity [...] if the goal is truly about equality, it has to be about a goal of saying that everybody should end up in the same place"

Equity was always social marxism disguised as politeness. Same arguments, just with a Memphis art style.

I find it compelling in the context of social services, but it’s no surprise that goal-oriented organizations are shifting away from this overtly redistributive focus.

There is an implicit assumption baked into both of these quotes. Equality and equity are interchangeable because human beings are essentially fungible and will experience the same outcomes given the same opportunities. Inequality of outcomes necessarily means there was inequality of opportunity, because there's no other explanation for the disparity.

That isn't really true though. People are different and there is nothing wrong in acknowledging that. You can't say Von Neumann is fungible with Donald Trump.
