> three movement measures were key predictors of dance quality; these were variability and amplitude of movements of the neck and trunk, and speed of movements of the right knee.

LOL, so if a guy stands there cocking his head around wildy on his neck and twitching his right knee as fast as he can, women will be magically drawn to him like moths to a flame?

I'll definitely try

Goodhart's law:

"When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure"

sounds like 50s rockers moves to me. add some hip thrusting and you’re nearly there

In oz, we call this dude a rooster.

Bob Fosse read the memo on male head twitching: https://youtu.be/DSSlWfOCgLw?t=198

Turns out my trunk abduction/adduction movement amplitude has been wildly insufficient this whole time... you could have told me this sooner guys.

So if I understand it correctly, you have to wriggle your right knee a bit more right ?

> In summary, we have identified specific movements within men's dance that influence women's perceptions of dancing ability.

No, I don’t think you have.

> Nineteen males were recorded (…) controlled stimuli in the form of avatars were then created in the form of 15 s video clips, and rated by 39 females

That’s not remotely enough to make such a definitive-sounding claim. Not to mention it’s a strange controlled experiment which does not necessarily translate to the real world.

[2010]

And human male - it's not about avian bachelors impressing lady ornithologists.

For once at least, we don't have to add "in mice" to an article title...

(Waiting for "AI-driven male ..." :)

They did use avatars and linear regression. :)

¡Ah! It's settled then :)

So... dancing is NOT for the birds?

You don’t need to dance if you have wonderful flashy feathers.

I just got that wonderful idea of a feather implant industry for human male. Definitely gonna disrupt the date market. Call me if you are a VP that dare to change the rules of the game.

Dancing is for attracting the birds ( https://www.etymonline.com/word/bird#etymonline_v_11183 ).

Be in shape, affluent and giving zero f*cks and you'll catch the female eye in whatever dance you throw there.

Or maybe just show that you're having fun (which contributes to giving zero fucks) and you'll get 80% there if you are somewhere outside of the extremes of the bell curve for attractiveness.

Ze Frank was a pioneer in this area.
