Belief in conspiracies is motivated. No one has ever adduced a conspiracy that violated their factional/communal/civilizational belief system, even if the purpose was to depict themselves as a target. It is a way to construct an alternative to reality, and I think it is giving it too much credit to even call it epistemological.
