Here, "text editor" means Emacs or Vim, mostly Emacs. (No thanks.) Page last updated March 2024 but looks very 1990s.
For example, I briefly (pun not intended) used the Brief editor, some years ago, and also by chance, was introduced to one of the guys who worked on it, Miles Norman, IIRC, at a dev meeting in Boston. Brief had an interesting feature: if you held down a particular key for longer, it would repeat faster. And if even longer, then even faster. This was very useful for moving around rapidly in large files. Also, I heard it was written in pure assembly.
Those are the kind of anecdotes I was hoping might arise from this post.
That can be a plus point for some people :)
