Ask HN: Looking for Web 1.0 Community

2 points·Turboblack··7 comments

Hi all. I'm looking for communities or sites dedicated to web design of the 90s, website building of those times.

The search engine returns only a few hardware forums.

Internet communities dedicated to 90s web nostalgia

websites, groups on social networks, possibly forums, telegram channels, anything on this topic.

tell me the links if you know

https://neocities.org/ Comes to mind.

Kagi also has their small web project, which may not be 100% Web 1.0, but leans that way from what I’ve seen.

thank you so much for the kagi

Tip for further searches, an alternative phrase sometimes used is "smolweb".

exactly! I searched with the wrong keywords, now I have many interesting sites. Thank you

It's not exactly 90s style (maybe closer to mid 2000s?), but there are some, er, modern "retro" options? The HTMX community enjoys building minimally dynamic sites using mostly HTML. The Drupal community is still active (and thriving, surprisingly) with only minimal forays into modern JS, with most of it still being PHP templates. A lot of their styling and UI decisions are still from that era.

Now I wonder if any project has tried to bring back frames and Flash/Ruffle UIs... and fishcams!

Maybe https://32bit.cafe/ could be up your alley - small but quite active for its size.

this service is good, I'm interested, thank you
